Work: new scenarios (but not too many) from the western front
Work ennobles man and Italy is a democratic republic founded on it. If this is a constitutional assumption, the scenario presented by the analysts (almost) confirms market expectations in every nuance.
Starting from training, the experts point out that the economic and management engineering profiles are the most profitable in terms of right opportunities. In their view, the humanistic and philosophical faculties have little chance of a profitable employment placement.
But that’s not enough. It is in fact necessary to build a solid network of contacts during the first phase of working life: the network will be useful later, when experience and knowledge will be ready for the rise to important roles.
It is still not enough. In their first working season, ambitious managers must gain experience in large corporations, even in modest roles, from which their ability to have a complex vision of the economic landscape will develop. Better if the corporations are large international organizations and if the roles they cover are spread over more functions, enabling them to acquire 360-degree skills.
The first fifteen years of career, to be managed with a spirit of sacrifice and humility, are fundamental to determining the future of our leaders, but it is difficult for those who have not reached the summit to assert themselves after the first twenty years of hard work.
Between guarantism governments and companies not yet ready to definitively enrich the workforce with open-ended contracts, the first few months of 2019 sees the world of work typified as a field in which long-term employment is losing ground in favor of fixed-term contracts, despite the state’s attempt to restore organizations to the pre-crisis model, in which stable work was a certainty and not a privilege.
In a fragmented and changing context, the self-employed professional is becoming a viable alternative for many and not just a second choice. In general, Italian companies must now deal with the Millennials, no longer novices and more interested in career security and the delicate balance between private life and employment rather than work. What’s more, they are little enthralled by roles of responsibility but much more stimulated and prompted by a just compensation.
On these foundations, all still to be built, Italy is preparing to face the challenges of the new millennium, between the growing sensitivity to the issues of protecting the planet and the drama of migratory waves: two phenomena destined to shape the future of the country.
